DIY spring carrots 4 ways

These super cute rustic farmhouse carrots have been everywhere for the Easter and spring season. and I have seen people on YouTube making these carrots in so many ways with so many different materials. I made mine 4 different ways because I was hoping that people would be able to make these with just the items that they have on hand. Keep reading because I saved the best for last and you will never be able to guess how I made one of these carrots.

1. Wooden carrots.

First let’s make these cute wooden carrots.

For the most part all you need to make these carrots is some sort of tapered wooden stick or wooden dowel, something sharp to cut notches or to cut the wood. ( sometimes you can find small handsaws at the dollar store.) glue gun and something to use for the grass. ( I’ve seen people use raffia but I just used greenery from the dollar store). Finally, you will need paint.

Step 1. Gather your wood. I found these wooden legs in the clearance section of hobby lobby for just $1 each. I simply cut them down to varying lengths. Then I cut notches in to my “carrots” to make them look more realistic

Step 2. If you have a drill then you will want to drill a hole in the widest end of the carrot. This will be for the greenery to slip into. If you do not have a drill then you can just glue the greenery directly onto the carrot.

Step 3. Use your glue gun to glue the grass or greenery onto the carrot.

Step 4. Paint or stain your carrots. Whatever you prefer.

That’s it!

2. Burlap ribbon and Foam carrots

These carrots are the most popular on the internet. This wasn’t my favorite method but it still turned out good.

For these you will need a foam Cone or square and you will need some burlap ribbon. you’re also going to need a glue gun, scissors, and you will also need some greenery. Orange paint is optional.

Step 1. If you have a foam cone you can cut it into 4 equal parts. These will be your carrots.

Step 2. Now you want to wrap these cones in some blue tape for added stability.

Step 3. Poke a hole into the widest end of your “carrots using scissors and hot glue your greenery into the hole.

Step 4. Wrap the burlap ribbon around the carrot and hot glue as you go along to keep the ribbon in place.

Step 5. Paint your carrot if you want

3. Candlestick carrots

These are my pride and joy. I got this idea while I was wandering through the thrift store. When I saw these tapered candle sticks I immediately thought they resembled the shape of a carrot. I knew that I had to share this method with the world once I figured this out.

To make these you will need some tapered candles (2for$1 at my dollar store) , orange yarn or twine, a glue gun, some tape, greenery.

Step 1. First you will want to tape the greenery to the bottom part of the candlestick. This will be the widest part. You will get more of a carrot shape if you tape the greenery on either side and then use a rubber band to bind the greenery in the middle see the photo below.

Step 2. Continue To wrap the entire candle stick in with the tape. This will help to strengthen the candle stick so that it does not break. It will also act as a protective barrier so that your candle does not melt when you glue the yarn onto it.

Step 3. Wrap the orange yarn around the candlestick glueing it as you go along. And you are done.

4. Twine wrapped candlestick carrot.

For this method you can repeat steps one and two from the previous method. And then simply use twine in place of the yarn. You will end up with something that looks like this.

You can then paint these or leave them as they are. This is what they look like painted.

Trash to treasure | dog house makeover on a budget

Back in March right when the world as we know it turned upside down my neighbor threw out an old play house. It was set for the trash. I have had plans to build a dog house for my three dogs ever since I moved into my home 2 years ago. The playhouse was the perfect foundation for a dog house and I had a vision for it. My neighbor was nice enough to let me have the playhouse and to help get it into my yard. I had just received news from my job that we would be out for a 14 day quarantine. And I thought this dog house makeover would be the perfect project to keep me busy. Little did I know my employer would soon change their mind but I still put all my energy into this project on the evenings and weekends for about 3 months. But it was all worth it because now I have a luxury dog house and it cost me less than $100 to make!!! in this post I will walk you through exactly how i made over this dog house on a budget.
