DIY Easter egg garland

As soon as the Easter decor hit the shelves in the stores I had to go out to get some inspiration. I came across some Easter egg garland and instantly wanted to make my own version of it using only dollar store items. I’m going to show you guys how I made my egg garland 2 ways.

The first method I used to make this requires some drilling. If you don’t own power tools or know anyone who does then check out the second method.

Here is what you will need for the first method.

1. Hot glue gun and glue

2. Speckled eggs from the dollar store

3. twine

4. Drill

5. Tape

6. Skewers or toothpicks.

Step ☝🏽

You will want to drill a hole into the top and bottom of your eggs. You only need a small hole but you want to make sure that it is large enough that you will be able to stick the skewer through the egg.

Step 2

Cut a piece of twine to your desired length. I cut mine at about 4 ft.

Step 3.

Once you have drilled holes into all of the eggs, you are ready to start stringing them onto the twine. To make this process easy you want to tape the end of your twine to your skewer.

Step 4

Once the twine is taped to your skewer you can simply insert the skewer into the egg pulling the twine all the way through.

Step 5

Continue this process until you have strung all of your eggs onto your string. You can place as many or as little eggs as you want on the string. I spaced my eggs about 3” apart but you can string them closer together. You want to make sure that you leave about 3-6” on each end of the rope so that you will be able to tie your garland onto whatever you are hanging it on.

Step 6.

My eggs moved around on the string because the holes in eggs were larger than the string. I added a dab of hot glue to the front and back of each egg around the holes in order to glue the eggs in place on the twine.

That’s it! I loved how it turned out. I hung this garland in my entryway.

Second method

For the second method I decided to make garland with foam eggs. I used the same supplies but I added paint and there is no drilling needed for this method.

Step one.

This time I started with some dollar tree egg garland which I gave a glam makeover. First I removed the ribbon from the foam eggs

Step 2

I painted the eggs white using some white acrylic paint. it took about 3 coats of paint to fully cover the eggs.

Step 3

Once The white paint was completely dry, I gave the eggs some gold accents using two different painting techniques. For half of the eggs I created a speckled patterned using my finger and a toothbrush.

For the second technique I just dry bushed some gold paint onto the eggs by running the toothbrush across the circumference of the egg top to bottom.

Since the eggs are made of foam no drilling was needed. I simply taped the twine onto a skewer and fed the skewer through the eggs just like in the first method.

This is the finished product.

Trash to treasure | dog house makeover on a budget

Back in March right when the world as we know it turned upside down my neighbor threw out an old play house. It was set for the trash. I have had plans to build a dog house for my three dogs ever since I moved into my home 2 years ago. The playhouse was the perfect foundation for a dog house and I had a vision for it. My neighbor was nice enough to let me have the playhouse and to help get it into my yard. I had just received news from my job that we would be out for a 14 day quarantine. And I thought this dog house makeover would be the perfect project to keep me busy. Little did I know my employer would soon change their mind but I still put all my energy into this project on the evenings and weekends for about 3 months. But it was all worth it because now I have a luxury dog house and it cost me less than $100 to make!!! in this post I will walk you through exactly how i made over this dog house on a budget. Before The YouTube video for this project is now live so if you are reading...
