DIY faux concrete planter part 1

Concrete is a definite trend this year. Really concrete never goes out of style. I made these faux concrete planters with just some paint and some terra cotta pots that I got 2 for $1 at the dollar store. I started to paint them white and then I had a lightbulb moment and remembered how obsessed I have been lately with concrete planters. The beautiful thing is that because of the naturally dry texture of terra cotta, these pots not only look like concrete but they have a realistic texture as well.

Here is what you will need to make these gorgeous faux concrete planters.

1. Terra cotta pots

2. Foam brush, paint brush

3. Acrylic paint in different shades of gray. ( I used slate gray, black, white, Amish gray, smoke because that’s what I had already but a simple dark gray and white may create the same look )

Step 1

Concrete is never one solid color. That’s why I chose to blend different shades of gray with black and white. I first started by covering the planter with the darkest color as a base ( black mixed with Amish gray and slate)

Step 2

Next I began to blend in the other colors. It’s not necessary to wait for the first coat to dry. I used my foam brush for this step. I poured my white paint onto one plate. And in another plate I poured my other three colors. I began blending by dipping the brush into the white paint and then dipping the brush in the other colors so that I had a little bit of each color on my brush.

Then I stamped the foam brush onto the pot. At this point it should look something like this.

Step 3

Without letting the paint dry I then smoothed the paint out across the pot using the brush.

That’s pretty much everything. I let the paint dry and this is what they look like.

These pots are perfect for year round use. You could add some faux greenery or you could use them for actual live plants. These pots would be cute for an indoor herb garden. If you want to use these for live plants then I recommend covering them with a clear top coat. In part 2 of this DIY I will by showing you how I used these to make more seasonal Easter decor. Trash to treasure | dog house makeover on a budget

Back in March right when the world as we know it turned upside down my neighbor threw out an old play house. It was set for the trash. I have had plans to build a dog house for my three dogs ever since I moved into my home 2 years ago. The playhouse was the perfect foundation for a dog house and I had a vision for it. My neighbor was nice enough to let me have the playhouse and to help get it into my yard. I had just received news from my job that we would be out for a 14 day quarantine. And I thought this dog house makeover would be the perfect project to keep me busy. Little did I know my employer would soon change their mind but I still put all my energy into this project on the evenings and weekends for about 3 months. But it was all worth it because now I have a luxury dog house and it cost me less than $100 to make!!! in this post I will walk you through exactly how i made over this dog house on a budget. Before The YouTube video for this project is now live so if you are reading...
